The Information Governance Review Report has been published and is now available on the DH website

Dame Fiona and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt launched the report at the Electronic Patient Records conference earlier today. Jeremy Hunt welcomed the report and emphasised its importance in enabling better sharing of information to improve care.

The Department has also announced that Dame Fiona will chair an independent panel to oversee and scrutinise implementation of the review’s recommendations and to provide advice on information governance issues.

Dame Fiona and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt will be speaking about the final report of the Information Governance Review at the Electronic Patient Records conference being held at the ICO Conference Centre, London on Friday 26 April and we expect that the review report will be live on the Department of Health website later on the same day. With regret, Dame Fiona and Secretary of State will not be speaking at HC2013 in Birmingham tomorrow, Wednesday 17 April. Dame Fiona will be attending the funeral of Lady Thatcher. We hope to be able to announce a new date and arrangements shortly.

The Information Governance Review Report has been sent to Secretary of State. Until he publishes the report, which we expect to be in April, we will not be able to discuss the content.

The review would not have been possible without the patients, carers, health and care professionals and other staff that we met through the summer and early autumn. we would like to thank everyone that we heard from or met during the review.

NHS Constitution launched

The DH has launched a consultation asking the public, patients and the NHS how they think the NHS Constitution can be strengthened. The press release can be found on our publications page or click here for the consultation itself.

There is a section on patient data on pages 13-15 of the consultation document. The proposed changes to the NHS Constitution aim to offer patients a fuller explanation of their rights under existing law and the NHS commitments with respect to data.

The closing date for comments is 28 January 2013.

Responses to the consultation will feed into a revised version of the NHS Constitution, which will be published by April 2013.
